It's August!
Oh God, how is it August?
Welcome all to my little quarterly (ish) newsletter in which you get some updates as to what I’ve been doing, what I’m working on, and what’s coming out. It’s been a fun start to the year with DISSOLUTION coming out in March, some conferences, festivals, and talks, some publishing news, and the lead-up to EXTREMITY coming out in September. Let’s do a quick breakdown.
DISSOLUTION
Since last we spoke, DISSOLUTION came out worldwide and received some fantastic critical acclaim. As well as rave reviews in everywhere from The Guardian to the NYT, it’s already made its way onto some best-of lists. The New York Times picked it as one of the best thrillers of 2025 (so far, obviously), and Esquire picked it as one of the best books of 2025! And we’re only in August. They certainly seem confident that all the books for the rest of the year will be rubbish.
Genuinely, though, it’s been really gratifying to hear how much people have enjoyed it and vibed with it, and if you’re one of those people, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
EVENTS
I’ve been on the ol’ circuit around the place. Cymera Festival was a blast, as usual, and I’ve done a bunch of podcasts and live talks in various venues. The big travel for me this year is next week, when I’m going to WorldCon in Seattle. I’m on a bunch of panels, doing a ‘table talk’, and autographing, so if you’re there, do check out my schedule and come and say hi!
PODCAST
Our podcast has been great fun too, and if you haven’t listened yet, you can find all our episodes here. We’ve had great feedback from people reading along, and our next episode even has a special author guest on with us! Check it out!
WHAT’S UP NEXT?
The next book is of course EXTREMITY, which is out in the US with Tordotcom and in the UK with Tor UK. We’ve had some cracking early reviews, and I’m excited for this one to be out in the world. A little secret news is that we’ve also sold the TV option to this one, so if that moves forward, we might be seeing it on screens, too!
(You might be thinking, another option? Wasn’t there supposed to be an ASCENSION movie and a DISSOLUTION movie. Well, yes, but Hollywood is nothing if not slow. I can say that all these projects are in very active development, which is great. Often production companies will option something and just sit on it for a while, but that is not the case with, now, all three of these projects, so fingers crossed one of them makes it to your screens in the not-too-distant future!)
After that, we have ABYSS out in May, which will be published by Nightfire, Tor’s horror imprint, and then EXHUMATION, the next full-length novel out in around October next year. I’ve got another couple of projects that are written and in the pipeline without publication dates yet, but safe to say you’ll be seeing a bunch more from me soon!
I think that’s about it from me? There’s a reason I do these quarterly. Every time I sit down I forget everything that I have to say. I hope you’re all doing fantastically and, as always, if you want to get in touch please go ahead and do so. I love hearing from people who have enjoyed my work.
All the very best, and enjoy the rest of your summer,
Nick
